Guest Post:
The idea for the shift series began with the question; If you could be anything, what would you want to be? My answer wasn’t simple, because I couldn’t choose. I equally wanted to be a wolf, a mermaid, and a pegasus, all for different reasons. I desired to be a wolf, because I liked the idea of belonging to a pack. I have a very protective nature inside me; just like a wolf defends their pack members. I wanted to be a mermaid to have the freedom the ocean offers. This I decided when I went on my first cruise. Having been out at open sea, made this yearning stronger. I dreamed of what it would be like to have a tail and escape the land for the aquatic world. Even in the pool while I swam I would wish that I could hold my breath indefinitely, and see without hideous goggles strapped to my head. I also I longed to be a pegasus. Now this form is obvious, because of my lifestyle. I train horses. While I ride I feel connected to the horse, like one creature. The only thing that could make horses better are a pair of long feathery wings. I often close my eyes while out on a ride, and I imagine we are flying high above the clouds. Not only that, but the obstacles, the hills, and the rivers that I have crossed while on horseback make me enjoy life, and the beauty within it. I had often dreamed that I could be one of these three creatures. When my nightmares came, like they so frequently did, I would become one of the three creatures to save the life of the ones I love. Losing a loved one has always been a deep fear of mine, and it’s no surprise that it is Callisto’s fear as well.

Melanie Hamilton grew up in a small town with her mother and father in North Carolina.  She works daily on a gaited horse farm owned by her family.  Melanie trains the horses there and teaches people how to ride and she’s been doing it all since she was seven.  Melanie enjoys to camp and trail ride with her family and friends, also she enjoys to dance when provided the opportunity.   In her free time, she sits on her front porch, sipping Plexus Slim, and works on her fantasy novels.  Many of the characters in Melanie’s books are based on real people in her life.  Some of the characters are based on close friends to Melanie, friends she loves and would do anything for.
