Sir James Winford is a three-time widower. He believes he is cursed and is certain death to any woman he loves. He has vowed never to love again.
Emily, the ghost of Sir James's first wife has unfinished business, and still lingers at Winford Manor. She wants to see her husband happy, and she wants to bring her murderer to justice.
Rose has loved Sir James since childhood. She must live with the unspeakable things she has done trying to make James see her as more than a child. She believes she is close to achieving that goal when Leslie shows up.
Leslie and Sir James share the experience of losing a loved one. Will Leslie be the woman to break the curse? Or will she be just another victim.
Rose paced
her bedroom, the same bedroom she used since she arrived at Winford Manor when
she was a child. There was nothing wrong with the room. It was spacious and
comfortable, but it wasn’t the room she dreamed of occupying. She wanted the
master suite, but more important, she wanted the master.
That dream
started the day she talked James into playing with her. He stayed less than an
hour, but her mind exaggerated the time into something much more. Playing house
was not something James wanted to do, but his mother made him promise to spend
some time with her. She took advantage of that promise.
In the years
since that day, her imagination exaggerated the scant events. In her
embellished memory, he called her sweetheart. He told her that she was the most
beautiful thing he had ever seen. He commented on how delicious everything was.
He held her hand and kissed her cheek. In truth James sat down at the tea
table. He looked at the empty cups and plates, folded his arms across his
chest, and glared the entire time.
Tonight she
saw Leslie kiss his cheek. Her jealousy and possessiveness spun almost out of
control.
Rose stopped
pacing. “She has to go. I will not have it happen again.”

Emily didn’t
like Rose’s room. She came here to watch Rose. She came here to learn things.
This was the only place Rose let her true nature surface. “So you will not have it happen again. Well, we shall see about that.” Emily
faded into nothingness.
