Minerva’s Mystic Museum is located in New York City. Every full moon the “powers that be” choose someone from the visitors of the museum. This someone, known as the mystic walker, will be the hero/heroine of the novel. The “powers” select someone they feel deserves a second chance, or just a chance to follow their destiny. Minerva, the curator and caretaker of the museum meets the chosen mystic walker. Through the magic that has been entrusted to her, Minerva supplies them with the opportunity to change their lives.

TEASER / EXCERPT:

Set up for the teaser – Korina is in the Mystic Museum speaking with the museum’s curator Minerva.

"I was young and stupid. I should have stayed and owned up to my responsibility. It was my duty to marry. We had been betrothed since birth. I shouldn't have let stories of his ugliness and brutality scare me so."

"If you were given the chance, would you stay and marry?"

“I’m older now." She wrinkled her brow.  "I believe I would. I'd learn to live with it, and I'd try to change it if I could. I would give anything to be able to try."

The woman released her hand.

"A little understanding and compassion can do wonders for a relationship. Remember that when dealing with your husband."

Minerva clasped her hands together at her waist.

"My what?"

The otherworldly face lit up in a beautiful, peaceful and serene smile.

"You have been granted an opportunity to right the wrong you have done.”

Minerva paused and Korina felt her heart leap. 

“The ‘powers that be’ are giving you a chance to find happiness, a chance to do your duty and fulfill your destiny."

Korina barely noticed Minerva’s tiny step backward.

"Safe journey, Korina, remember what you have learned here."

Those words echoed through Korina’s head as the universe tilted and the museum slipped from her view.

“Mika will want to leave with me tomorrow,” Hugo said.

Hugo and Nadine were sitting on the porch in the front of the house. The sun was riding low in the west. A few clouds with an underbelly of grey dotted the early twilight of the horizon. Streaks of pink and orange colored the sky, changing the grey to purple in places.

“I know,” Nadine agreed.

“I wish there was a way to change her mind.” Hugo leaned forward. Elbows on his knees, he cupped his chin in the palms of his hands and drummed his fingers on the side of his face near his cheekbones.

“So, you see the way Harold looks at her, too?” Nadine was smiling.

“He’s got it bad.” Hugo leaned back and returned his wife’s smile.

“It’s funny to watch him. First he looks angry. Then he looks like you used to look just before we made love. Then he shakes his head and gets angry again.” She sighed. “Do you think he’s angry with her, or with himself?”

“A little of both.” Hugo chuckled.

“Maybe she’d stay if she thought we needed her,” Nadine mused.

“Maybe.”

“Hugo, get the ace bandage.”

“Why?”

“I just sprained my wrist,” Nadine said with a devilish twinkle in her eye.

Hugo looked at her strangely, then her meaning sank in. “You certainly did. Don’t move, I know how much it hurts.” He kissed her cheek and chuckled as he went to the medicine chest.

Set up for the teaser: Rowena finds herself in a special “club.” She has no idea how she got there or what kind of place it is.

 “Stephen, please don’t do this,” she pleaded as he put the blindfold over her eyes. “Stephen!” she shouted in a panic.

“It will be okay, baby. Just don’t try to take it off. You will make it really hard on yourself if you do. They want you blindfolded for their own reasons. Don’t give them an excuse to punish you.”

All through dinner Rosa watched the interaction between Adrian and Jon. Was Adrian interested in what Jon was offering? She couldn’t tell.

She was afraid another poor choice in men wouldn’t bode well for Jon. His last two partners were fickle. Jon needed a strong, stable relationship, not the flings these young people offered. Not that she and Jon were all that old. They were about the same age, although she’d never admit that she was very close to thirty-six.

Jon was sentimental and sweet. If he gave his love to someone, then that someone was his world. On Dulce Isle, especially here in Vista Bay, one’s sexual preference was never an issue.
