Faye Hall ~ an interview and her novel ~ Mistress of Purity

I AM PLEASED TO WELCOME AUTHOR
Faye Hall

BIO:
Faye Hall's passion driven, mystery filled books are set in small townships of North Queensland, Australia during the late 1800's.

Each of her novels bring something symbolically Australian to her readers, from Aboriginal herbal remedies, to certain gemstones naturally only found in this part of the world.

Each of her books tell of a passionate connection between the hero and heroine, surrounded and threatened by deceit, scandal, theft and sometimes even murder.

These romances swerve from the traditional romances as Faye aims to give her readers so much more intrigue, whilst also revealing the hidden histories of rural townships of North Queensland.

Faye finds her inspiration from the histories of not only the township she grew up in, but the many surrounding it. She also bases most of her characters on people she has met in her life.

Faye was able to live her own passion driven romance, marrying the love of her life after a whirlwind romance in 2013. Together they are raising their 9 children in a remote country town in northern Queensland, Australia.

Excerpt:
“Prue, I’m Jack Malloy’s only known child and heir, there was no other who could inherit the Malloy estate.  I’m curious though to know why you told me all the earl’s possessions were left to me, Prue.  You were his wife, madam; you shared his bed even if it were for such a short time, what was it he left to you?”

Prue quickly darted her eyes down to where her fingers were again fidgeting with the rings on her fingers.

“Your father only asked that I be allowed to stay living here so I might remain safe from any who might wish me harm.”

Gareth was still .  “I still don’t understand, Prue.  Why should my father insist in his will that I take you under my charge at this estate instead of at my own?”

Prue slowly raised her eyes up.  “Your father’s will is several months old, Gareth.  He wished for me to stay living here because he knew of the dangers that would fall on the estate and all who lived here should I leave.  The earl just thought he was doing what was best for both the estate and me.”

Gareth quickly approached Prue, his annoyance obvious at her continued avoidance to answer his question.  Stopping in front of her, he gripped the top of her arms painfully with his palms.

“Damn it, Prue.  Will you just tell me what was written in my father’s will?  What exactly is it he has left to me?”

Taking on a confident stance, Prue made sure her stare didn’t falter from Gareth’s intimidating one.

“You’ve been left the Malloy estate house and all its surrounding properties with the aggreeance the current servants remain in your employ. You have the small amount of money from your father’s accounts, and…”

“And what, Prue?” he asked impatiently, his hands shaking her softly when her words drifted off.

Prue let out a short shaky breath, her eyes never faltering from his.
“And you’ve been left me, Gareth.”

JoAnne Kenrick ~ an interview and her novel ~ Before the Rain

I AM PLEASED TO WELCOME AUTHOR
JoAnne Kenrick

BANTER – STUFF ABOUT YOU
Q: Are you a morning person, or a midnight candle burner?
A: Morning! I’ll be up at first light and at my most creative in those first few hours. By dinnertime, I’m ready to zone out with a book or the TV until it’s time for bed.

Q: Tell me one thing about each of the four seasons you like. It can be anything.
A:        Winter = Reading in front of the fire in a big arm chair while candles flicker and music plays softly in the background. Even better if it’s raining outside.
Spring            = I adore watching new born lambs bounce and play.
            Summer = Poolside reading!
Fall = My favorite season in North Carolina. The colors are stunning, and the climate finally comfortable enough to enjoy walks in nature.

Q: Coffee or Tea?
A: Tea! I’m a total tea babe. Usually, a cup of good old British PG Tips does the trick and in true Brit form, I believe it heals all. But now I’m living in North Carolina, I’ve come to appreciate sweet iced tea and the wonderful and extensive herbals from Teavana.

BOOKS – ABOUT THE CRAFT
Q: Do you write long hand first, or does it go straight into the computer?
A: I write notes only as a as-need-to basis, meaning when I’m out and about and an idea or plot fix strikes me. I’ll scribble it down but barely go back to said notebook. Just the act of writing down my thoughts helps me remember to act on them. Otherwise, the ideas become fleeting thoughts quickly forgotten. I’m a computer girl. I type far faster than I could ever freehand write. And besides, my handwriting is appallingly messy.

Q: Are you a sit down and play it by ear kind of writer, or do you need a structured guideline, or maybe a little of both?
A: I’ve been a panster for as long as I have been writing fiction. However, I’ve learned along the way that it helps a great deal to do a lot of preparation beforehand and now I’m no longer a total panster and am still nowhere near a plotter. I have character background work, setting research, and general conflict and resolution ideas before I begin writing the story. I’ll also have a very rough outline, but never an ending. I like to let the characters lead me the way to the ending. I’ve recently discovered the prefect little guide that helps me keep all those ideas and preparation organized. Cherry Adair’s Writer’s Bible. Check it out. The paperback is available on Amazon, but if you buy direct from her website, you get an editable word doc which is much easier to work with. I also use a cute little app on my iPad called A Novel Idea. It’s an easy to use data base for you to enter character profiles, scenes, notes, and other kinds of information related to your project.

Q: When crafting the story do you go from beginning to end, or do you jump around writing the scenes that are pushing themselves forward in your brain?
A: I have to start at chapter one and finish with ‘the end.’  I like things in order so the story naturally progressives as the characters make discoveries and evolve.

Q: Do you always know how a story will end when you begin writing it?
A: Never! If I did, I would expect a gazillion unfinished stories in my database as once I know the ending, my drive to finish the story lulls greatly. It’s like the job is done and it’s time for revisions if I know the ending.

BOOKS - NOW LETS PROMOTE – STRUT YOUR STUFF
Q: What are you working on now? Would you like to share anything about it?
A: I’m working on a super fun and flirty new adult contemporary romance set in Southern California.  I don’t want to say anymore than that…but, as they say, watch this space! News to follow.

Q: Do you have a new book coming out soon? Tell us about it.
A: Yes! Thanks for asking. London Dolls is a brand new contemporary series, the first one, WHAT LOLA WANTS, releases in September in both print and ebook! Heroes and heroines put their hearts and dreams on the line as they seek happy-ever-afters with a back drop of the glamorous world of burlesque in London’s West End.

Q: How can we find you? Do you have a web page, FaceBook page or any buy links?
A:  Drop by my website to discover all the latest news on my releases, and more! www.joannekenrick.com I also have a Facebook group where I hold contests regularly for my readers. http://on.fb.me/1fFNz98

Q: Are you currently participating in a blog tour? If you are let’s tell everyone where you’re going to be so they can catch up with you again.
A: I am currently on tour with Writer Marketing Services for my new release BEFORE THE RAIN. Links are as follows:

I’m happy you could join me on Books and Banter.  I hope you had fun with the Q & A’s

Thanks so much for having me on this super fun book blog! I really enjoyed answering your questions, and I’m happy to answer more. Readers, please feel free to post your questions in the comments section and I’ll try my best to answer them!

Want to indulge in some sexy times in North Wales? Want to swoon over a rough-around-the-edges Welshman who is just too darn irresistible no matter how much the heroine tries? Well…you should totally pick up BEFORE THE RAIN, a stand-a-lone set in rural North Wales. A sassy newly unemployed and single Southerner from Atlanta heads to Wales for a man-free break to find her own inspiration to write words…instead, she falls for the rustic charm of the land and her very gruff and Welsh land lord. Trouble, of course, ensues.

BLURB:
Three fianc├ęs in three years makes Zoe Chantilly’s relationship column for the Georgia Times her only semblance of commitment…that is until her dating advice takes a dive down the Suwannee and she’s fired.

Unemployed and single, she leaves the sweltering heat of the south and heads to the UK for a man-free break from life. The plan? Get with nature, write a novel, and be alone. Be very much alone. But nature has other plans for Zoe.

Navigating the backcountry roads of Wales seems just as complicated as her love life. A near-collision hones her desires in on Dylan Mostyn, a Leo seething with a raw prowess and macho magnetism the Aquarius in her can’t resist.

This Welshman is as arrogant as he is gorgeous. He’s also her landlord. The undeniable and thunderous attraction between them pinnacles during a karaoke duet at the village fete, but what starts as a no-strings fling quickly spirals toward dangerous ground.

BANTER – STUFF ABOUT YOU
Q: When you think of a garden, do you picture vegetables or flowers?
A: manicured lawns with flower borders

Q: If you didn’t have to clean them, how many bathrooms would you have in your home?
A: depends on how many in the family but probably 2 maybe 3
How many if you have to clean them?
A: probably 2

Q: Bedtime, relaxing so you can sleep sounds. Is your preference, white noise, TV, soft music, ocean waves, forest or meadow sounds, babbling brook, or something else?
A: soft music mixed in with ocean waves

Q: What kind of music do you listen to? Do you have an all time favorite song?
A: very adaptable listening ear from 50’s 60’s and 70’s pop to classical with a splash of country. My favourite song would depend on my mood, but Ravels Bolero, 1812 overture, nights in white satin (moody blues) whiter shade of pale (procul Harem) If feeling patriotic; Jerusalem, land of hope and glory. So as you can see a broad spectrum.

Q: Coffee or Tea?
A: Definitely coffee.

Q: How do you feel about exercise?
A: Okay, like swimming.

Q: Texting, love it or hate it?
A: It’s okay.

BOOKS – ABOUT THE CRAFT
Q: Are you a sit down and play it by ear kind of writer, or do you need a structured guideline, or maybe a little of both?
A: Play by ear

Q: When crafting the story do you go from beginning to end, or do you jump around writing the scenes that are pushing themselves forward in your brain?
A: All over the place

Q: Do you always know how a story will end when you begin writing it?
A: No idea haven’t got a clue, sometimes such as Cindy, because I know what the end is I have an idea, but in between no idea it just comes.

Q: Have your characters ever taken the story in a different direction than you had originally planned? Do you have a for instance, for us?
A: Completely true, my book ‘Gift or Curse’ I met woman who is now a friend as is her husband, I met her in a bank so  started chatting she then told me she was a tarot reader.  Then bang what if? So started writing about a woman who was a tarot reader. So to get first-hand knowledge I asked her to give me a reading which she did. Anyway the story was going to be about – to be honest I don’t know- a woman the daughter of the tarot reader has visions when she touches an object or shakes a person’s hand. The main character is on a coach going to meet his estranged wife to settle a nasty divorce. The daughter shakes hands with the man on the coach and a vision appears of a knife being pulled from a woman’s chest. Is that her or his wife?
The idea was a murder mystery but as the writing went chapter by chapter it took me how I don’t know into the world of spymasters MI6 CIA and the KGB. Great really enjoyed it.

Q: What geographical locations are your favorite and why?
A: Anywhere no particular place the characters will dictate where they are I haven’t a clue; sometimes on a beach in an office, but sometimes sat in the interview rom sending steely eyes at the suspect with deep questions getting into the back of his mind is a good place to be.

Q: Which holiday celebrations do you like to incorporate into your stories and why?
A: Not really thought of that in the books but if the joint venture does come off then probably summer holidays as it will probably be a romantic setting and a chance meeting-perhaps.

Q: Generally speaking, is your work based on real life experience? If it's not would you want it to be?
A: It is most is on what I know and what I have dealt with.

Q: How long does it take you to create a novel?
A: sometimes depending on the research weeks; then others months depending on the way it flows no set time period.

Q: Do you like to read the genre that you write?
A: Sometimes.

Q: How does the woman in your life feel about the genre you write? Has he/she read any of your work?
A: Not applicable at the moment.

BOOKS - NOW LETS PROMOTE – STRUT YOUR STUFF

My latest work has just been released!

SYNOPSIS:
Mark was travelling by coach on the long journey to meet his estranged wife to try and sort out amicably their divorce. He met Michaela whilst on the coach, which ended with them having a relationship, but what he didn’t know, in the beginning anyhow, was she could sometimes see visions when she touched an object or by the shaking of someone’s hand. Her mind’s eye would be blinded by a searing white light and as the light gradually dissipated she would see the vision as clear as day.

She touched Mark’s hand then bang! The white out happened. She called it a curse; her mother called it a gift. She couldn’t tell Mark what she had seen but he knew something was wrong, what had she seen…?

The occult ran in the family as Michaela’s mother was a Tarot card reader or was she…?

Marks wife was leading a double life. On the surface a high flying city executive reaching for the top or was she…?

The reader will be taken through twists and turns of the secret services including MI6, CIA, MOSSAD and the KGB which is not apparent in the beginning; no one is who they say they are, intrigue and double agents abound.
